Top 5 Reasons to Camp with Kids + 10 Homeopathics to Take + My Packing List

If you're considering camping with your kids, here's some encouragement to make it happen! I've been camping with my kids 1-2x yearly for the last 8 years, and it has become a cherished tradition for us all.

Top 5 Reasons to Camp with Kids

  1. Bonding: Spending dedicated time together leads closer relationships, teamwork, and trust-building.

  2. Adventure: Camping brings you up close to nature, unpredictable weather, camp fires, "roughing it," and more.

  3. Disconnect and Reconnect: We all need breaks from everyday stresses, world events, social media, and the online world. With time and space away from the distractions of the world, camping allows you to re-connect with nature, Spirit, God, and each other.

  4. Outdoor Knowledge: There's so much to learn while camping, including survival skills, fire-building, chopping wood, understanding ecosystems, cooking over a fire, bird and bug watching, understanding weather signs, finding the constellations, and more.

  5. Make Memories: Camping gives the chance to create moments, big and small, that you can all look back on and cherish.

Figure Out Your Bare Minimum For Comfort

Discomfort and dirtiness are two reasons why many people avoid camping. I think a little discomfort is good for us and makes appreciate the comforts of home that much more when we get back. Nonetheless, a bare minimum for me is that I won't camp in a place that doesn't have toilets. That's a hard line for me. 😎

We usually camp for 3 days, and I like to be able to clean up myself and dishes relatively easily while camping. The 7-gallon Aqua-Tainer water reservoir has been a total game-changer for me in providing the convenience of running water ❤ while we're camping.

Making It Happen

My husband doesn't like camping, so rather than feeling disappointed about missing out on the fun, years ago I realized that I needed to just make camping happen anyway. 😊 So, the kids and I go camping, meanwhile my husband stays home and tends to the chickens and dogs (when we decide to leave them at home).

Sometimes we camp with friends or family, but more often we camp with just the three of us. That allows us to bond more closely and also be flexible on timing depending on weather.

If you'll be camping in a tent like we do, make sure to check the weather forecast before you pack to go. No one wants to be stuck out in the middle of nowhere feeling miserable during a heat wave, wind storm, or soggy days.
