My daughter Alina has now graduated from high school! She was homeschooled all the way through from K-12 and is now ready for the next phase of her education.

What's Next?

Alina's long-term goal is to become a fiction author, writing novels.

Because she has been doing well in her dual credit classes at New Mexico State University (NMSU) for the last few semesters, Alina was offered a very nice scholarship for $$$ thousands per semester (on top of free tuition, which is already provided by the state here). Alina would have to take 15 credit hours per semester and maintain a 3.3 GPA to qualify for the scholarship.

However, Alina has chosen not to accept this scholarship for several reasons:

  • Several departments at NMSU are woke and pushing radical ideology in the classroom and textbooks.

  • The two classes Alina has taken in the English department were dumbed down and unchallenging for her. So, we will be looking elsewhere for ways to support her goal of becoming an author.

  • Alina probably doesn't need a degree for what she wants to do. It will likely be more important for her to develop other skills for earning an income until such time as she can actually get paid to write. So, it's more important for Alina to continue working part-time and developing work skills rather than attending college full time.

One amazing thing about homeschooling is that it gives you the confidence to chart your own course outside of the usual system. As a family, we will be mapping out what classes Alina would benefit from taking at the university vs. what we will handle elsewhere.

For Fall 2026, Alina will attend NMSU part-time, continue to work part-time at a flower shop, and continue in my Liberty, Leadership, and Classics intensive class. We will take it a semester at a time and can change course as desired later on.

It will be interesting to watch it all unfold. I can't wait to see how Alina shines her gifts into the world.
