3 Homeopathics for Emotional Stress

When life's everyday stresses hit, homeopathy can help! Using homeopathic remedies to treat emotional stress not only helps you move through the emotions and regain balance quickly, it also helps prevent acute emotional stresses from contributing to long-term chronic issues.

Resistance to Treating Emotional Injuries

Many people resist taking homeopathics to help with emotional stresses. People seem to think that they need to suffer through grief and hardships, and that such suffering is right.

However, emotional injury is injury, and it is no sign of weakness or inadequacy to treat emotional injuries. Would you hesitate to treat a sprained ankle or a burn wound? Hopefully not, and it should be no different when it comes to emotional injuries.

How Homeopathics Treat Emotional Injury

Using homeopathic remedies to treat emotional injuries is much different from using pharmaceutical drugs, alcohol, or recreational drugs. Homeopathics do not suppress or numb the emotions in the way that drugs and alcohol do. Instead, homeopathics stimulate the body's own healing powers, so that the emotions are moved through and don't get stuck.

Preventing Long-Term Degradation of Health

We've all heard of people who had some particular emotional trauma after which they never fully recovered and ended up with long-standing health issues. For instance, some people never quite recover after the death of a loved one, a particularly potent disappointment, or other tragedy.

Using homeopathics to treat emotional stresses can help prevent this from happening, so that we don't suffer long-term degradation of health in the wake of life stresses.

3 Homeopathic Remedies for Emotional Stress

The three homeopathic remedies that are needed most often for emotional stress are Ignatia amara, Aconitum napellus, and Staphysagria. There are other acute emotional stress remedies, too, but these are the top three that are needed most often.

Ignatia amara for Grief, Heartbreak, and Bad News

Ignatia amara is known to help with many types of emotional stress. It is my first go-to for emotional stresses, including:

  • Grief, such as after the death of a loved one or pet

  • Heartbreak or relationship troubles

  • Homesickness

  • Disappointment or failure

  • Hearing bad news

  • Worrying about a loved one, such as following a specific event such as a car crash or medical diagnosis)

Aconitum napellus for Fright and Fear of Death

Aconitum napellus (also known as Aconite) excels in treating emotional stresses related to fright. Such incidents often lead to a fear of impending death (or even panic) for self or loved ones. Examples include:

  • Car accidents

  • Natural disasters

  • Being physically attacked by a person or animal

  • Watching a scary movie

  • Having a near-miss incident

Staphysagria for Rudeness, Insults, and Bullying

Staphysagria often works well to restore balance in the wake of:

  • Insults or rudeness of others

  • Bullying

  • Mortification or shame

Homeopathic Dosing and Potency for Emotional Stress

I generally use homeopathic remedies in the 30c potency for treating acute emotional stresses. When used very soon after the precipitating event, typically only one dose is needed for the body to restore balance. When there has been a time lapse between the event and the usage of the homeopathic remedy, sometimes more than one dose is needed.

How To Dose

  • Just one pellet is almost always enough for a dose.  There is no advantage to taking more than one pellet.

  • Doses are best taken when there is a neutral mouth (with no remaining taste from previous food or drink).

  • The pellet should be allowed to dissolve on top of the tongue. The remedy action happens in the mouth, not in the stomach.

  • Try not to eat or drink anything (except water) for at least 10 minutes after the dose.

With all homeopathic remedies, the least number of doses is always the best. Homeopathic remedies work by stimulating the body to heal itself. Anytime there is a noticeable improvement, no more doses should be given unless the symptoms start to regress (or unless there is a plateau, where the symptoms get better to a point but then stop improving). And if no improvement is observed within 3 doses of a remedy, the remedy should be discontinued.
