Homeopathic Resources for Coronavirus

Updated: Mar 17, 2020

Homeopathy in Epidemic Diseases

History has shown that homeopathy is effective at treating epidemic diseases. For instance, during the flu pandemic of 1918, in London 45% of patients in conventional hospitals died, while the homeopathic hospitals had a death rate of less than 5%. In Philadelphia, 26,795 cases of influenza treated by homeopathic physicians had a mortality rate of 1.05%, while the conventional treatment had a mortality rate of 30%.

If you want more information about homeopathy's efficacy in epidemics, here are some useful articles:

Current Coronavirus Epidemic

In case it is helpful, here are some homeopathic resources about the current Coronavirus outbreak.

Anxiety/Worry Over Coronavirus Epidemic

If you are feeling quite anxious/worried about this epidemic, the following acute remedies might be helpful:

  • Aconitum napellus: anxiety (and maybe even panic) and fear of death

  • Ignatia amara: general emotional stress and anxiety/worry, ailments from disappointment and/or bad news

  • Gelsemium sempervirens: anxious and feeling drowsy or paralyzed with anxiety

  • Argentum nitricum: anxious with hurried/rushing thoughts, may worry about many different scenarios that could happen (even unrational scenarios)

I generally use homeopathic remedies in the 30c potency for treating acute emotional events. When used very soon after the precipitating event, typically only one dose is needed for the body to restore balance. When there has been a time lapse between the event and the usage of the homeopathic remedy, sometimes more than one dose is needed.

With all homeopathic remedies, the least number of doses is always the best.  Homeopathic remedies work by stimulating the body to heal itself. Anytime there is a noticeable improvement, no more doses should be given unless the symptoms start to regress (or unless there is a plateau, where the symptoms get better to a point but then stop improving). And if no improvement is observed within 3 doses of taking a remedy, the remedy should be discontinued.

Coronavirus Homeopathic Remedies

Epidemic Updates from Paul Herscu - This website is from a non-profit multi-disciplinary medical research laboratory that studies current epidemics. There is a series of articles here about the current Coronavirus epidemic, looking specifically at the statistics, life cycle of epidemics, current treatment strategies and recommended tests, etc. One of the main uses of this website is to disseminate information about specific remedies that work for current illnesses/epidemics. Paul Herscu ND, MPH gives the following indications for remedies that are working in treatment of Coronavirus. The good news is that these are are all commonly used remedies, which can be purchased at local healthfood stores that carry homeopathic remedies. The goal with these remedies is to actually prevent the virus from progressing to the more-serious conditions (pneumonia, etc), so these remedies would be used early on in the illness.

  1. Feeling of heat, warmth in the body overall and also in a hot face, eyes, ears, with or without fever. Just a sense of warmth. They may describe burning pain and burning sensations.

  2. As a consequence, they want cool air, feel better in the cool air, and are very thirsty for cool, cold, or icy drinks (but discourage the patient from having ice, see below).

  3. Dryness in the nose, mouth, throat, bronchi. Limited perspiration.

  4. If they have a cough, the cough is felt as dry. If they have a cough, it comes later in the process, not as a first presenting sign.

  5. They are extremely tired, fatigued, and/or sleepy.

  6. They want company, and talk more than the other remedies listed here. As a matter of fact, they feel very comfortable and want to talk to doctors and others about their symptoms.

  7. That said, they may become slightly irritable. Disgusted by the idea of picking up germs from other people.

  8. If they have digestive complaints, which are rare, there may be vomiting or diarrhea or disordered stomach. And while the keynote of the remedy is these discharges being excoriating or acrid, in this instance, at this time, discharges are actually more bland.

  1. Feeling of heat alternating with chills. They may feel warm originally, but become more chilly over time.

  2. They may still want cool air, but the thirst here has changed clearly for a preference to warm drinks.

  3. Here too there is dryness in the nose, mouth, throat, bronchi with scant sweat.

  4. Here too, extremely tired, sleepy, and fatigued.

  5. Here the openness found in Sulphur is missing. They become easily irritable early on, perturbed, or annoyed in a ‘flat’ sort of way (the way we sometimes think of Sepia). Here, they do not want to be talked to, do not want to be disturbed or interrupted. They want to just be alone and yet want someone around. But there is this ‘unfeeling’ sensation in their emotions.

  6. They become slightly anxious, mostly around how strange they feel and the dire news, but anxiety is not the predominant feature here, as they are too ‘flat’ for that.

  1. Feeling of heat, warmth in the body overall or only as a hot face, eyes, ears, with or without a fever.

  2. Regarding temperature comfort, they may desire cool or warm air

  3. The thirst is very high for cool drinks.

  4. Dryness in the nose, mouth, throat, bronchi, with scant sweat.

  5. Extremely tired, sleepy, fatigued.

  6. Very fearful, wanting very close company, wanting to be held and clearly ameliorated by the comfort of others.

  7. They are restless from the anxiety but easily consoled.

  • Arsenicum album: While this is the remedy that everyone mentions, in fact this is less common as the others.

  1. Feeling of heat, warmth in the body overall and also a hot face, eyes, ears, as well as a fever.

  2. However, their desire is warmth.

  3. They have a thirst for warm or room temperature drinks.

  4. Dryness in the nose, mouth, throat, bronchi. No perspiration.

  5. Extremely tired, sleepy, and fatigued.

  6. They are very frightened and anxious and more so from the news when they hear how many died.

  7. They are internally restless, tossing in bed or pacing, and worried about how bad this infection really is.

  1. Feeling of heat, warmth in the body overall and also a hot face, eyes, ears, as well as potential fever.

  2. The want cool air and great thirst for cool drinks.

  3. Dryness in the nose, mouth, throat, bronchi, with scant sweat.

  4. Extremely tired, sleepy, and fatigued.

  5. They are very ‘actively’ irritable. They really do not want to move or be bothered, yet people bother them. They really do not want to talk. They are monosyllabic, and do not move much.

  6. They are not very restless.

Probable Remedies for Treatment of Coronavirus - This article provides a good starting place on homeopathic remedies that will likely be effective for treating Coronavirus.  Keep in mind that this is based on the author's knowledge of what the illness looks like from reports, rather than his personal experience treating it, so the actual remedy selection might be a bit different. But this is a good starting place, and also includes some remedy guidance from homeopaths around the world who have been treating Covid at the bottom of the article.

Homeopathic Dosing for Acute Illnesses

For treating acute illnesses of all kinds, I typically use the following dosing protocol.

  • 30c is the potency I generally use for treatment of acute illnesses.

  • Start with 30c dry dose for 1-2 doses, then switch to a wet dose for further doses as follows.

  • If there is no improvement within 2-3 doses, I stop using that remedy as it is not the right one.

  • Doses are best taken when there is a neutral mouth (with no remaining taste from previous food or drink).

  • The pellet should be allowed to dissolve on top of the tongue. The remedy action happens in the mouth, not in the stomach.

  • Try not to eat or drink anything (except water) for at least 10 minutes after the dose.

Acute Wet Dosing (after 1-2 dry doses)

  • Dissolve 1 pellet (30c potency) in 1/2 cup of water. Put this in a very clean jar (with no residual smells) with a lid.

  • For an acute ailment, do NOT dilute the remedy further; rather, take doses straight from the jar.

  • Succuss the jar (smack firmly against the palm of your hand) 10-50 times before each wet dose. 10 should work fine if you feel like the remedy is working well, but if a stronger response is desired, I will succuss the jar more than 10 times. (Succussing the remedy actually raises the potency slightly, which accelerates the healing.) I often succuss the jar ~50 times before each subsequent dose in acute treatment.

  • 1/2 tsp from the jar is generally a good starting dose. Continue to take that amount as long as the symptoms are strong.

  • Do NOT give the next dose while improvement is happening. Rather, wait to give the next dose until there is regression of the symptoms, or a plateau (when the improvement levels off and then remains unchanged for hours).

  • Once the symptoms start to taper off, so that they are returning with less and less intensity, make the doses smaller (such as scant 1/2 tsp, 1/4 tsp, scant 1/4 tsp, etc).

  • Typically, the dosing frequency will taper off during an acute. For instance, 2-4 doses may be needed on day 1, 1-3 doses on day 2, then a dose once a day, then every 36 hours, then 48 hours, etc. Just stay on top of it and keep taking the remedy every time the symptoms show a pattern of regression over several hours or when the symptoms plateau and stop getting better for hours and hours.

So, to be clear, you didn't have her tested for Covid 19?
