In this season of life, I'm juggling increased work hours and extra household responsibilities due to my husband's health problems. I'm spending more time in front of the computer, on the phone with homeopathic clients, and in the kitchen; I need to purposefully manage my time to make sure I still have balance in my life. My kids, too, have been cooped up indoors more the last few months, since summertime here is a time when it is too hot to be outside for most of the day.
In trying to find a good balance, I'm realizing that I am missing time spent outdoors. It is too easy for me to spend whole days indoors. Even if what I'm doing inside is valuable, I do a disservice to myself if I don't regularly spend time outdoors in nature.
Health Benefits of Time Outside
Numerous studies have shown a wide range of health benefits from spending time outside. Regular exposure to sunshine and the outdoors have been linked to:
optimal Vitamin D levels, crucial for bone, brain, metabolic, and cardiovascular health,
Spending More Time Outside
To help us spend more time outside on a daily basis, my kids and I have created a challenge for ourselves:
Spend at least 30 minutes outside every day for 30 days.
We can spend our time outdoors doing anything we'd like to: walking, weeding, hiking, hanging with the chickens, playing, gardening, or even reading. The idea is just to start building the habit of spending more time outdoors.
Wanna Challenge Yourself to Spend More Time Outside?
If you want to increase your time outside, come join us! I've created a Facebook group for everyone who wants to implement increased outside time over the next few weeks.
